golf…how do you backspin an 8 iron to pitching wedge and what golf ball would be the best to achieve this?

Any good three piece ball will spin….if you have a decent lie, play the ball a bit back in your stance…play a bit more of a vertical swing, descending at a steeper angle towards the ball. Accelerate always! De-cell will cause a fatty shot going nowhere. You are trying to compress the ball between the ground and the club face and NOT try to pick it or sweep it off the top of the turf surface. You must hit the ball first, compressing the ball causing it to walk up the club face thus causing backspin. It is only after the ball is off and flying to you then start to hit turf and peeling a divot.
Because this is a difficult shot, if your lie is in fairway and you have a clear shot up to the green…you may try a bump and run shot instead, using the same 8 iron from within 100 yrds and in. Much easier shot to pull off….

the best way to back spin is to really acelurate through the ball and keep the face open to the target as long as possible. Same with wedges.
